Belfast Marathon 2014: City puts its best foot forward in spite of drizzling rain
The other face of Belfast was evident at yesterday's annual marathon. More than 18,000 people took part, creating a festival atmosphere and a colourful spectacle in spite of the drizzling rain.
While there were a number of elite athletes competing, the vast majority of runners were simply trying to fulfil a personal ambition or were just determined to raise funds for good causes that meant something really personal to them.
The marathon is an event which began in a humble manner during some of our darkest days three decades ago, but has grown over the years and is now much anticipated by both participants and spectators.
Long may it continue to show up the city in the best possible light.
