Best wishes to Brokenshire as he passes on the chalice
When James Brokenshire came to Northern Ireland as Secretary of State 18 months ago devolution was functioning and the two main parties were praising their joint efforts in government. How vastly different the situation today, with no administration in place for over a year and all sorts of economic and service delivery problems mounting.
But his main concern now is his health, having surgery on a lung lesion and making a full recovery.
Everyone will wish him well in the months ahead. And good wishes will also go to his replacement, Karen Bradley, as she lifts one of the most poisoned chalices in UK politics.
