Bethany Firth is an amazing young woman. A multiple Paralympian swimming medal winner and this year's Belfast Telegraph Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability, she continued on her winning ways last year even though deeply concerned about her mother's treatment for cancer.

It takes a special kind of fortitude to deal with such a problem as well as compete as a world-class athlete, and no doubt Bethany inherited much of that from her mum Lindsey, who has been given the all-clear. Bethany has signed up for Swimathon 2020, which raises funds for Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK and deserves everyone's backing.
