Bravery of former politician a beacon of hope for others
Mental health is the Cinderella service of the NHS in Northern Ireland and the experience of former Alliance councillor David Armitage echoes that of many other deeply depressed people. When he presented at hospital he was diagnosed as suicidal, but sent home with a leaflet.
He has bravely written about how he disappeared, intending to take his own life, a year ago but when he realised that many people were concerned about him he decided to seek help.
Life is still tough but he has found hope. Hopefully many others with mental health problems will follow his lead and seek help from agencies and friends.
