Bunker mentality for Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy said he felt brain dead during yesterday's first round at The Open golf championship. Certainly, for a man of his talent, he played like a club hacker returning a horrific score of eight over par. He may have felt a delicious sense of irony when he saw Sir Nick Faldo – a harsh critic – card the same score.
But Nick's glory days are long past. Rory is ranked the second best player in the world even if recent form, following the signing of a huge new contract and a change of golf equipment, doesn't remotely justify that position. He is a young man under enormous scrutiny and pressure. Hopefully he can soon strike a rich vein of form and again fulfil the potential we all know he has.
