Captain Darren would swing it for Europe in 2016

Editor's Viewpoint

Victorious Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has responded with the expected good grace when asked if he would support Darren Clarke for the role next time around.

The pair have had their differences in the past – Darren initially ran against him before dropping out and suggesting another captain – but Paul says that he will be professional when making his input into the next selection process.

Togetherness is one of the great strengths of the European team in Ryder Cups and any suggestion of bad blood in the background would be a mistake. Darren has great experience in the competition, and given the performance of his fellow Northern Irish players Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell at the weekend, another local man on the team in two year's time could be the first step on the road to another victory.
