Celebrating unsung heroines who strive for better
Today this newspaper launches its annual search to find the most inspirational women in Northern Ireland.
As we know from past entries to the Belfast Telegraph's Woman of the Year, there are many unsung heroines out there who strive tirelessly to make this province a better place for everyone through their contributions to the worlds of business, arts, healthcare and the voluntary sector, or being a mum.
Some people might wonder why we just celebrate the role of women.
The answer is simple. Too often their work is overlooked.
Even today, they are still fighting for equality in the workplace, never mind proper recognition in the community and world at large.
That is why we are proud to highlight their achievements and why these awards are so relevant.
