Cheltenham statue perfect tribute to racing legend AP

Editor's Viewpoint

It is fitting that a statue of legendary jockey AP McCoy has been unveiled at Cheltenham, the scene of so many of his triumphs.

The former jump jockey rode 31 winners at Cheltenham. It was at this racecourse and in his other victories that he carved his name into the list of the all-time greats of racing.

He is one of the finest sportsmen to have come from Northern Ireland, which for its size has had more than its share of winners.

Some of the extraordinary sporting heroes to hail from the province include Rinty Monaghan, Mary Peters, George Best, Carl Frampton, and of course Sir Anthony himself, whose racing record may never be surpassed.
