Church's prayers answered as parish records returned
Thieves who stole a safe from a Church of Ireland rectory in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, were obviously hoping that it was stuffed with money or valuable artefacts. Its contents were even more important: irreplaceable records of births, marriages and deaths in the area.
But someone up there was obviously looking out for the parish. The thieves dumped the records in bogland 80 miles away, where they were found by a dog walker. News of the discovery was given to the congregation on Christmas morning - and the finder has since come forward bearing his very special gift, just like the biblical wise men did 2000 years ago.
