Cleaning City Hall statues will be money well spent
Belfast City Hall's position right in the heart of the city makes it an obvious attraction for tourists, but they must be disappointed when they view the dilapidated state of some of the monuments in the grounds of the council seat.
For many visitors this is their first impression of the city and it is not an encouraging one. It is particularly ironic that the statue of Queen Victoria, the monarch who granted Belfast city status, is now in dire need of intensive cleaning.
The money required to make the statue and the Lord Dufferin Memorial spick and span again will be relatively little but will do wonders for the image of the city.
