Codebreaker Kathleen a fascinating enigma herself

Editor's Viewpoint

Kathleen Cuthbert was one of those people whose remarkable life was largely unknown and untold until after their death.

An accomplished linguist, the Co Antrim woman worked on breaking the Enigma Code at Bletchley Park in the Second World War but never spoke of her involvement. However she led a very full life after that secret work, travelling widely, becoming a tutor at Queen’s University and taking part in a version of the Monte Carlo motor rally. Her life had all the ingredients to warrant a fascinating biography, but her passing means we will never know the full story. It is astonishing how often people with the best tales to tell never do so.
