Cops and robbers

Editor's Viewpoint

We all know that the police cannot be everywhere in their fight against crime. But one would expect them to be in police stations.

Yet in the last five years, at least 165 thefts took place under the very noses of officers in stations throughout the province. The most serious crime was the theft of £70,000, but cars, copper piping, a solarium and - to rub it in - security equipment also went missing.

Wonder who the police called to investigate these robberies? And were they like so many ordinary householders? Did they just throw their hands up in despair believing the police would never solve the crimes?
