Council showing vision with decision on defibrillators
We will never know if the life of east Belfast pensioner Jimmy Magee could have been saved if a portable defibrillator had been available in the community centre where he collapsed from a massive heart attack. What we do know is that the device, invented by Professor Frank Pantridge, is a life saver in certain circumstances.
And Belfast City Council is to be commended for agreeing to install defibrillators in all community centres in the city.
Prof Pantridge envisaged them being available everywhere that large numbers of people congregated.
Others are now seeing the wisdom of his vision.
