Care and nursing homes are the new frontline in the fight against coronavirus with deaths there rising as hospital admissions fall. Our story today about life in Beechvale Nursing Home in Killinchy gives us a new appreciation of the onerous tasks heaped on staff in such places.

They are by turns entertainers keeping up the spirits of the elderly residents, care experts fighting to keep the virus at bay, family members worried of what infection they might bring back into their own homes, and professionals reassuring relatives of residents in these unprecedented times. They have fronted up to a killer disease and their courage must never be forgotten.
