Courts getting tough on animal cruelty to be applauded

One of the most distressing subjects which unites all the people of Northern Ireland is in dealing properly with animal cruelty, which has become all too prevalent here.

For far too long we have seen many of the perpetrators walk free from the courts, or receive lenient sentences.

This has greatly angered the public. Fortunately, stiffer new sentences, and the power to challenge lenient sentences, should finally ensure that these terrible crimes are dealt with by our courts with the appropriate gravity. One unpunished crime against animals is one too many.
