Crass materialism of Black Friday was sickening to witness
In our competitive world, there is an argument for welcoming opportunities to buy cut-price goods, and also for retailers to stay in business.
The idea of a Black Friday and today's Cyber Monday should be good for shoppers, but on the evidence from the weekend, this literally comes at a price.
On Black Friday there were disgraceful scenes of shoppers virtually coming to blows in their search for bargains, and this occurred not only in Northern Ireland but also in other parts of the UK.
In a world where so many people are starving, it was sickening to witness such crass materialism in our midst.
Certainly, if this annual trend continues, the retailers will need to take much stronger control of events than they showed this weekend.
