David's Lidl act of kindness restores faith in humanity
The decision by a worker at a Belfast Lidl store to pay for an elderly customer's purchases when his card was declined was not simply an act of generosity, but something even rarer: an act of kindness. David Vance noticed the elderly man's problem and, rather than have him embarrassed, promptly paid for the goods. It was an act done to help without any desire to be recognised or applauded.
But another customer noticed what he had done and her Facebook post went viral. David may have ended up embarrassed but he deserved recognition, if only to demonstrate that kindness still exists in an increasingly acquisitive and self-centred society.
