Def Leppard star is a role model for battling cancer
Rock stars traditionally have been regarded as musicians on the road to self destruction but Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell is very much doing his best to stay alive. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma six years ago but is now on a revolutionary new drug regime which is keeping his condition stable. It is not a cure but the cancer is not getting worse.
What's more Vivian is working harder than ever being involved with two bands and keen to leave his own musical legacy. Instead of seeing his diagnosis as a death sentence he took it to be a wake-up call and his positivity is to be admired. It is not often rock stars are held up as role models.
