Diversity is the loser in Radio Ulster's shake-up
Wendy Austin has always been a consummate professional broadcaster and many will be sad to see her leave the flagship Talkback programme on Radio Ulster. She may have been less abrasive, but no less penetrative, then previous hosts of a show which pioneered audience participation here on a wide range of subjects.
Her loss is all the more acute because it takes another female broadcaster away from the highest profile presenting posts on the BBC NI airwaves.
While Wendy will host the new weekly business programme on Radio Ulster, there will be only one female voice on the flagship news and current affairs programmes, hardly the level of diversity we expect from our public broadcaster.
