Editor's Viewpoint: A royal rebuff

In 1898 Marconi made the first basic wireless telegraphy link between Ballycastle in North Antrim and the nearby Rathlin Island.

But as an embarrassing incident yesterday revealed, communications with the island are still pretty sketchy 112 years on.

Prince Edward and his wife Sophie were turned away from the Manor House restaurant because, according to the man who runs it, he had not been informed about the royal couple's security arrangements. Apparently the couple were unaware of the farce, but they must have wondered why officials were running around with red faces.
