Editor's Viewpoint: A Royal tribute

The tourist chiefs and the people in the Irish Republic will be delighted by the Queen's fulsome praise in her Christmas broadcast for the reception she was given across the border during her State visit earlier this year.

The visit itself was a major success, and the Royal stamp of approval will no doubt encourage many people to visit Ireland in the near future to sample the delights of this beautiful island for themselves.

The Queen's Christmas broadcast has a huge audience, and her glowing remarks about her visit will also be a great boost to Anglo-Irish relations after so many sad years of mutual misunderstanding. Her words will do nothing but good all round.
