Editor's Viewpoint: A sinking feeling
The first episode of ITV's much vaunted Titanic was less than impressive. Given the writer Julian Fellowes' pre-occupation with class issues, some people may not have been surprised that he seemed to transform this real life and death drama into a 'Downton Abbey At Sea'.
Certainly the first episode appeared to have achieved the remarkable feat of turning one of the most tragic and dramatic events in sea-faring history into something quite undramatic.
We in Northern Ireland know a great deal more than most about the Titanic. The ITV version of Titanic will need to improve enormously before, in television terms, it quietly sinks without trace.
