Editor's Viewpoint: A true heroine

Lance Corporal Kylie Watson from Ballymena has received the prestigious Military Cross for showing exemplary gallantry during a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Twice she put her life in danger under enemy fire to bring military assistance to wounded Afghan colleagues. Kylie is only the fourth woman in military history to be awarded the MC but she has reacted with typical Ulster modesty.

She has insisted that she was only doing her job, and said that everyone serving in Afghanistan deserves "a lot more than just a medal."

Kylie and her colleagues certainly deserve all our support, and we salute our heroine from Northern Ireland who is a real credit to her native province and its people.
