Editor's Viewpoint: Adam's message on mental health must be commended
Farmer Adam Watson from Coleraine deserves immense credit for opening up about his mental health problems.
It is a common issue among farmers and Adam's woes began when milk prices began to fall shortly before his wedding. The stress of mounting debts got to him and he considered taking his own life.
Instead he is now speaking out to try to save others taking suicidal actions. He knows all about the darkness of depression and mental ill health and takes steps to combat it when he feels problems getting the better of him. Men in particular are reluctant to open up about their concerns but like Adam talking to someone can be a lifesaving move.
