Editor's Viewpoint: Attack on church will have shocked all decent people
As an act of vandalism it was relatively minor, a broken pane of glass in a door and damage to some wooden crosses. But the fact that the target was a place of worship, First Presbyterian Church in Lurgan, and the wooden crosses had been placed there to remember the brave men who died in the First and Second World Wars, elevates it rightly to the level of a hate crime.
Northern Ireland, for all its faults, regards places of worship as sacred spaces open to all and abhors those who would violate them. People can now demonstrate that by giving the PSNI the information required to catch the culprits and bring them to justice.
