Editor's Viewpoint: Belfast walking tour a fitting way to celebrate Jewish community

The political, cultural and commercial contribution of the Jewish community in Belfast over the past century-and-a-half is immense, from helping the city's linen trade achieve global recognition to the founding of Haagen-Dazs ice-cream and national chains such as Stanley Leisure and Beaverbrooks jewellers.

They also provided Israel with a President, Chief Rabbi and Foreign Minister.

The Jewish presence has withered in recent times but Steven Jaffe is ensuring that its role in Belfast is remembered through the creation of a Jewish Heritage Walking Tour. It should be a fascinating stroll through the history of a vastly creative community.
