A cancer diagnosis in any family is traumatic but when it involves a child the pain and fear is magnified. Yet, as in the case of little Erin Donnelly, it is often the child who displays the strongest will and binds the family together. The seven-year-old is the star of the Children's Cancer Unit charity fundraising this Christmas and is an inspiring choice.

This time last year she was undergoing gruelling treatment in hospital but this Christmas will be at home with her family as she is in remission. There could not be a better present for a little girl who has endured so much but whose spirit buoys all those she meets.
