Editor's Viewpoint: Cafe burglars are shamed by the generosity of public
Those who burgled a community cafe in east Belfast, smashing their way into the premises and stealing staff tips, were guilty of a despicable crime. The cafe is run by volunteers, including several with special needs who were left distressed by the theft.
Perhaps those who committed the crime thought it was a reasonably soft target, even if they had to break down several doors to get at the money, which was for a staff celebration. But their actions rightly have been condemned and the true spirit of the area was shown when the stolen money was replaced by public donations within hours.
The cafe is a facility greatly appreciated by local people.
