Editor's Viewpoint: Charles embraces the spirit of inclusivity on Ireland visit

Prince Charles, who knows from personal experience the horror and pain that terrorism causes, was careful on his visit to the Republic and Northern Ireland this week to show a considered even-handedness in his engagements, where possible making them cross-border or cross-community.

True, they may have been carefully choreographed events but they set a tone, just as his mother, the Queen, did on her Dublin visit in 2011.

It was encouraging to see young GAA and rugby players come together in a game for the prince and his visit to a synagogue in Belfast showed respect for diversity. More could follow his example.
