Importantly it is also an area where independent retailers can hold their own against the national and international chains. Gareth Patterson, a Belfast GP, has now published his second guide to the best local retailers, this time concentrating on the north coast.
Not only is this a useful guide but it is also a way of highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit which still lives in the province. We'll drink to that.
