Broadcaster Sean Coyle will return to the airwaves with his own programme after BBC Northern Ireland axed his long-standing show virtually without warning.

His new programme will be available only on Radio Foyle, which will disappoint his many fans on BBC Radio Ulster, but his return to regular broadcasting is a victory for listener-power.

Many people still believe that the BBC made a major mistake by scrapping his highly-popular morning programme, and a great many made their views known to the Corporation.

BBC NI should learn the lesson that the pursuit of younger listeners at the expense of a more mature audience can be a mere 'will-o-the wisp'. The BBC does not always know better than its faithful listeners.
