Editor's Viewpoint: Down on their luck

The Down Gaelic football side came so near to winning the pulsating All-Ireland final against Cork at Croke Park yesterday, but in the end they were merely a couple of points short of victory.

Nevertheless, their supporters can feel proud at the skill and courage of the men from Down who brought such excitement to all sports-lovers north of the border.

Gaelic football requires immense skill and stamina, and the players of both sides yesterday were a credit to the game. However, it is never easy to deal with losing, but when the disappointment subsides, this Down team can take heart from going so near to winning, and also so far, in this year's competition.
