Editor's Viewpoint: Drumcree deadlock
The Drumcree Sunday has passed off peacefully, and this is good news. Not so long ago, the stand-off at Portadown caused serious violence, and the consequences virtually paralysed much of Northern Ireland at the start of the holiday season.
Though Drumcree remains relatively quiet, the problem has not gone away. If it is not solved sooner or later, the situation will continue to fester.
This is the last year that the Parades Commission, so distrusted by the Loyal Orders, has had to rule on this contentious issue.
It is now a matter for the new body dealing with controversial parades, and its first major test of credibility will be to find a solution for Drumcree that allows all sides to move on.
