Editor's Viewpoint: Dungannon leading the way on World Mental Health Day
Practically everyone who ever opens up about their mental health problems admits that they kept their condition hidden for far too long, partly because they felt ashamed and the subject is still regarded as taboo. But the town of Dungannon has brought the whole community together to help young people look after their mental health.
The idea came from Claire Kerr, a teacher at the town's Royal School, who recognises that young people are particularly vulnerable but reluctant to seek help. This is a tremendous initiative to mark World Mental Health Day and could serve as a template for other communities to address the problem.
