Editor's Viewpoint: England coming home, but should not be downhearted
England's coming home but, for them, sadly without the World Cup in their baggage. More than 50 years of heartache since the country won the trophy continue, but this year the team can leave the tournament with their heads held high. Reaching the semi-final of football's premier competition with a relatively inexperienced team was a remarkable achievement and great credit must go to manager Gareth Southgate and his support team.
It was heartbreaking for the team to go out in extra time, but every player performed heroically. The team went to Russia with low expectations and will be even stronger in the next tournament.
