Editor's Viewpoint: Farewell fair James

Veteran Northern Ireland journalist, James Kelly, who has just died aged 100, was older than the state itself and during his career in the media chronicled all its travails and joys, from the Blitz to the formation of a power-sharing government.

Although his career was remarkable for its longevity, age did not dull his keen eye for the many absurdities of life here, particularly in the political sphere. However no matter how acerbic his observations they were not written with malice and even those he criticised will mourn the passing of this doyen of the media.
