Editor's Viewpoint: Fighting for peace

The Northern Ireland officer killed by a rogue Afghan soldier is on his sad, final, journey home.

Lt Neal Turkington, who died with two other soldiers from the 1st Battalion The Royal Gurka Rifles, will be buried in his native province. His loss will be keenly felt for many, many years by his family, but they have the consolation of knowing that he was greatly admired for his courage and leadership.

He was typical of so many young men who have given their lives in that blighted country, pursuing the ideal of a safer world for all of us. We should never forget their sacrifice nor the suffering of their families.
