Editor's Viewpoint: Hard-hitting ads

It might appear that teenagers raised on a diet of horror movies and violent video games would be hard to shock, but the latest road safety advertisements had schoolchildren covering their eyes at the graphic depiction of a fatal traffic accident.

But do shock tactics work? It seems so as the death toll on the roads continues on a downward trend following years of hard-hitting safety campaigns. These advertisements are the nearest thing to the grim reality of death on the road and they show just how vulnerable we all are - drivers and pedestrians - every time we step outside our homes. We should heed the advice.
