Editor's Viewpoint: Horse trainer Harry is on the right track for success

Editor's Viewpoint

There are few sports which are as full of colourful characters as horse racing and Co Antrim trainer and horse owner Harry Smyth certainly fits the bill.

Featuring in the BBC NI documentary on the Down Royal racecourse, which comes under new ownership at the end of this month, his wisecracks are bound to endear him to viewers. Jump racing encourages small time-trainers in their dream of putting one over on the big stables and Harry, who claims he has a motley collection of horses, has tasted victory at Down Royal. The former stock car racer still maintains his drive for success and could have stepped straight out of a Dick Francis novel.
