Editor's Viewpoint: Imperative new City of Derry to Stansted route provided
The sudden demise of aircraft operator flybmi is a blow to the north west, from where the carrier provided a service to London Stansted Airport.
According to the airline, a number of complex factors were involved. These include increases in fuel and carbon costs, as well as the uncertainty over Brexit, which is casting such a dark shadow over many business enterprises.
Talks are already under way to try to save the route, which is such a critical link for many people in the area.
For the sake of all concerned, it is hoped that a new operator will be found as soon as possible to take over this vital service.
