Editor's Viewpoint: It's a knockout

The soccer World Cup is now moving to its more exciting knockout stage when the teams are forced to strive for a win instead of relying on a tame draw to survive to the next round.

Already there have been surprises and shocks, with the holders Italy failing miserably in the opening games and the French team imploding in disgrace.

Some of the relatively unknowns like Japan are showing the progress that is being made in world soccer, but England remain an enigma.

Nevertheless, tomorrow's match against Germany could be still one of the highlights - with or without the dreaded penalty shoot-out.
