Editor's Viewpoint: Jim's inspired role

Actor James Nesbitt has taken on the role of Chancellor of the University of Ulster.

It could prove to be an inspired choice; chancellors are usually figures completely remote from the lives of the student population, but there will hardly be any student who has not heard of the Coleraine-born thespian.

He is a former student of the university, although he left after only one year to pursue acting. While that may not make him the best role model for the value of third-level education, there is a fair chance that when the new Chancellor addresses the student body, they will listen.
