Editor's Viewpoint: Kielty right to point out how NI politicians have failed us
Patrick Kielty may be best known as a comedian but he has known tragedy through the murder of his father by loyalist terrorists in 1988.
However, unlike so many others bereaved by violence, he saw justice meted out with the killers put behind bars.
In that respect, he was one of the lucky ones.
But he also made a sacrifice by voting for the Good Friday Agreement knowing it would mean the early release of the killers. He did it for what he believed was the greater good.
However, he feels that politicians have wasted the chance to build a new future.
It is a pertinent comment from one who has earned the right to criticise.
