Editor's Viewpoint: Lake rescue attempt hero deserves bravery award
Alistair McCammon acted with uncommon bravery when he realised that someone was trapped in a car that went into a Fermanagh lake on Saturday night.
He stripped off and dived repeatedly to find the vehicle and drag the occupant, Unagh Gallogly, to the surface. Sadly, she later died in hospital.
Although anyone attempting to help others in emergencies should always be aware of the dangers, it could be said that he acted with no thought for his own safety.
However, he displayed heroism of the highest order and certainly that deserves to be officially recognised at a future date - even if it wasn't in the initial police statement.
