A sudden death is always a considerable shock to the family and friends of the deceased, but even by the normal standards of tributes from the people left behind, those for David Brown have been remarkable.

Mr Brown, who was only 54, died of a heart attack while riding his motorcycle, and the tributes have been pouring in for "a remarkable and irreplaceable man".

After a successful career in the Royal Marines he returned home specially to help rear his family, but he always retained the Army discipline that was so much a part of his life.

He went on to be a firefighter - further evidence of his service to people from all backgrounds in the wider community.
