Editor's Viewpoint: Lauren a great advocate for the importance of fostering
Young Lauren Houston, from Crossgar, is making the right headlines, raising money for Barnardos NI by competing in the Castlewellan Mud Run on June 16, followed by a skydive next month.
Lauren, who spent her early childhood in foster homes before being adopted by the Houston family, has learned all about the security of a loving home and the care of dedicated foster parents.
By raising at least £1,000 pounds the teenager will materially assist the charity to help others, but in doing so she will also focus attention on the need for good fostering and on people prepared to be foster parents.
In our busy world this kind of caring is often overlooked, but foster parents are worthy of great respect for the work they do in bringing love, kindness and self-worth to children who badly need these qualities.
