The chill winds of economic recession and the depressing stories of troubles everywhere may encourage people to find personal comfort from a happy marriage and a close family life.

This is certainly true of Mr and Mrs Robert McKee whose diamond anniversary this weekend was celebrated by a massive family party in east Belfast. Their 10 surviving children, and a very large number of grandchildren and great- grandchildren helped them mark a long and happy marriage. Robert McKee, now 79, justifiably admitted: "We are very proud. Married life can be tough, but we are still happy and in love." After 60 years of a successful marriage, that says it all.
