Editor's Viewpoint: More female voices on radio would get a good reception
The suggestion that radio stations in Northern Ireland should have more female presenters with their own standalone prime time shows is a worthy point of debate. Women have a higher profile on the national networks but that should not mean an automatic move to replace regional male presenters.
It has to be remembered that ratings are the lifeblood of most prime time shows and the most compelling reason for change is when the number of listeners fall. However, broadcasters should ensure that talented presenters - male and female - are given equal opportunities to fulfil their potential. That way presenters and listeners are winners.
