Editor's Viewpoint: On a sad note

Lucy Drennan is a familiar figure to music lovers in Northern Ireland as one of the leading figures in the Ulster Orchestra and today they will be saddened to learn of her heartbreaking decision to give up her career because of deteriorating eyesight.

She can no longer read the notes, hence her decision to quit.

She will still be able to play by ear with her musician husband for her own enjoyment and to pass on her love of music to pupils. So, at least, her talent will not be entirely lost to the public.
