Editor's Viewpoint: One of the good guys

In a profession with more than its fair share of dislikeable characters, Northern Ireland's soccer captain Aaron Hughes stands out as one of the good guys. He has played 79 times for his country and no-one has ever accused him of giving less than his utmost.

Sadly this skilled defender will not be seen again in a green shirt. He had planned to end his international career at the conclusion of the European championship campaign, but injury has ruled him out of the final two matches.

It robs the fans of a chance to say farewell to one of their heroes, a true gentleman and a great servant of Northern Ireland football. We hope that he recovers from his injuries soon and continues to grace the Premiership with his skill for his club Fulham. Their gain is definitely our loss.
